Social gaming giant Zynga has developed yet another addictive game for play on Facebook. FrontierVille, launched the first week of June 2010, is rapidly gaining favor among social gamers. After only six weeks, the pioneer themed application has snagged nearly 6 million daily active users, easily out pacing Texas HoldEm Poker, Treasure Isle and the grandfather of social gaming, Mafia Wars Game. Why Play FrontierVille With dozens of online games available, why choose FrontierVille as a favorite? Is it more fun, more challenging, more anything than the other Zynga games? Touted as the first of a new generation of online play, the application allows users to earn and use multiple avatars, presented in the guise of a spouse and child. Players must clear the land, build a cabin, plant crops and as any true sodbuster can attest, run a few rascally critters off the land. The multiple layers of action add an element of surprise-who knows when the next bear or groundhog will pop up-that the other Zynga products do not offer. The aspect of the unexpected combined with the ability to switch between three characters, helps to keep the game interesting and keep users logging in daily. FrontierVille Fundamentals Just like in the real world, the first thing that new FrontierVille citizens must do is clear the land. Trees, rocks, grass, wildflowers and the occasion cow's skull have to be removed to make way for crops and buildings. As the land is readied for improvements, pioneers gain money, wood, food, experience points and various items to complete bonus collections. Goodies are earned by both working for other homesteads and by hiring a neighbor as a farmhand. When players work on neighboring homesteads they earn reputation points as well as the usual experience, food, etc. Reputation points, indicated by little red clickable hearts, increase an individual's value as a hired hand. Continued Play As the game progresses, players complete challenges get married, have a child, build a town and harvest crops and animals. They also happen upon typical farmland hazards including some that need to be clobbered, scared, or otherwise driven off. More annoying than dangerous, these pesky varmints include snakes in the grass, bears in the woods, groundhogs in the crops, and of course, foxes in the hen house. The Future of FrontierVille There are several areas under development such as Rattlesnake Canyon and Gold Rush that promise to be filled with exciting adventure and plenty of bounty. These expansion zones will roll out as players reach the upper levels and need more incentive to stay in the game. The phenomenal numbers that Zynga experienced in 2009 slid a bit in 2010. However, the April 2010 release of Treasure Isle was the hottest launch of any Facebook social game with 7.5 million daily players its first week. Advertisers adore big numbers like these so the future for FrontierVille, and FarmVille and Treasure Isle for that matter seems bright. As long as the games' designers continue to create new areas, challenges, and bonus items, players will continue to log on. The Lesser Known Fact About Positional Play - Everyone knows that the player with the dealer button is in the best position since they are the last to act and have an advantage to see how strong or weak the other players are. However, since everyone with even moderate skills knows this, I will take positional play one step further. On the very first bet, right after the first two cards are dealt the small and big blind have the option to bet last. Most often this temporary advantage is ignored. Some people aren't even aware that they are in the best position this one time in the game. They tend to ignore it. The best professional players are fully aware of this one time advantage and use it to increase their winnings several times during a sitting. If a player in the blind has a medium to high pair in the pocket, or a first tier hand such as AK, AQ, AJ, A10, or even a KQ suited and no major betting action has occurred, that blind should make a very large bet. Why should they do this if they will be in the worst position for the rest of the game after this first round of betting? First they have a great starting hand, which at that point may be the best two cards on the table. They also want to reduce the number of players seeing the flop by weeding out players with suited connectors, low pairs and second and third tier hands. This will increase their over-all odds of keeping the best hand after the flop. It also gives them a great reading as to the strength of the other players. Let's say you have QQ. If one or two other players call your bet, you mainly have to worry about a King or Ace falling on the flop. If either of those two cards fall, you are probably beaten and should fold on an large bet. However, If those two cards do not show in the flop you can bet even higher and probably walk away with all the money in the pot then or win a monster pot at showdown. Be careful if three suited cards fall on the flop. Most straight draws should have folded and your queens will probably block a high straight draw if an AK or AJ went in against you. You can lose but in general it is a great percentage move strategically. Check The Other Players Out Look at what the players are drinking before you sit down at a table. If two or more players have alcoholic beverages, your chances of winning are very good. Two tipsy players can feed the entire table. When they go broke and leave the table, find a different table. Even one beer will loosen a player up enough to take advantage of them. Look for Tells Write Them Down In A Small Notebook You are allowed to make notes at the table as long as you don't show them to any other player while seated at the table. When someone ask you "what is the book on this player" that is what they are talking about. Read my articles about tells to determine the strength and weaknesses of other players hands. There are physical, vocal and psychological tells and you can read a person like a book. My three Associated Content articles will provide all the information you need to know about tells and reading them. Finally All good professional players know to never play if there is anything on your mind. Never play while you are sick, depressed or even excited. If you just met a beauty that afternoon and have a date with her later, don't play. Don't think you can mask your emotions. You can't. |

Review of texas holdem rank::Where Can I Play Texas Hold Em Poker for Fun
Parlay is an interesting little game. It claims to be a new way to play your favorite poker games such as Texas Holdem, Omaha, Or Five Card Draw. The claim is correct to a certain point. For poker lovers you need to understand the hand is not played out via poker rules exactly, but that poker comes into play if you decide not to fold your hand. The game is more of a word game with the poker aspect being a nice little bonus. First I will explain the word portion of the game. Each of the cards in the playing deck has a normal playing card rank, a letter, and a point value. Your goal is to form a word from your hand (your hole cards) along with any shared cards of three to seven letters. The number of hole cards and shared cards you have to use is based on the version of poker you choose to play. If you are playing Texas Holdem then you will have a maximum of 2 hole cards and 5 shared cards to form your word. If you are playing Omaha you must use two your hole cards (and only 2) along with up to all five of the shared cards. If you are playing Five Card Draw then you can use any of your five cards or all of them (there are no shared cards). After forming your word you decide to just take your points (fold) or you stay in the hand for the possibility of bonus points. After the words are revealed any suspicious words that may not be real can be challenged. If you are challenged and your word is illegal you receive zero points are are out of the hand. If you challenge someone else's word and it is a real word you get zero points and are out of the hand. Anyone that folded and has a valid word (or even if it's not a real word but it's not challenged) gets the points for their word based on the point values of the cards they use. Anyone that does not fold goes to the next round of scoring. Whoever has the best poker hand, which does not have to use the same cards as their cards used to form their word, will get a bonus matching the point value of their word. Then anyone using a 5 letter word gets 15 points, 6 letters gets 45 points, and 7 letters gets 100 points. Finally any point bonuses are added if your word was challenged and ruled legal or if you challenged and opponent's word and it was illegal. Any of the players that have decided not to fold then compare their scores. Only the person with the highest total out of these players gets their points. Everyone else that failed to fold gets 0 points! You are free to play as many rounds as your group decides ahead of time and then total your scores to see who wins. This is a good game if you have some people in your group that enjoy word games and some enjoy poker type games since this combines the two. At just under $15 retail price, the game is a good one to keep in your collection for when you have a mixed group to play with. The game loses some of the key aspects of poker and will dissapoint poker fans, but then again if it gets people to play that would normally refuse to play a poker style game it will still please the poker fans! |
