Two of the most popular poker games in play today are Texas Holdem and Omaha. Holdem is one of the most played poker games here in the United States, while Omaha tends to be played more on an international level. However, it is growing in popularity here in the United States as well. While both games have similar characteristics, the key difference between the two games is the amount of action that takes place. The main difference between Omaha and Texas Holdem is the amount of hole cards that a player receives. Hole cards are the cards dealt to a player face down so that only he or she knows what they are. In holdem, each player receives only two cards, while in Omaha each player receives four cards face down. However, when playing Omaha you can only use two of your four hole cards, as well as three community cards for a final five card hand. Because of this, there is a much higher chance of making a hand when playing Omaha, so there tends to be a lot more players seeing flops and a lot more betting happening throughout the entire hand. Aside from the differing number of hole cards, the games play out the same way. After everyone receives their cards, a round of betting occurs and players decide whether or not they have a playable hand. At this time they can either call the blind, raise it up, or simply fold their hand. After this first round of betting the "flop" occurs and three community cards are dealt face up that everyone can use. Another betting round occurs and upon completion the turn card is dealt. At this time there are currently four cards face up that everyone can use. Yet another round of betting occurs and the river, the final community card, is dealt face up. The final round of betting occurs and the player who has the best five card hand scoops the pot. Both games are very fast paced and very enjoyable to play. Oftentimes, holdem players convert to Omaha due to the thrill of the increased amount of action. However, the variance in Omaha games tends to be much higher then that of Texas Holdem. It takes a sharp mind and a lot of courage to be a successful player in either game, so be sure you are ready to step up and give them a try. |

So, you're ready to learn the game of Texas hold em? Texas hold em poker is a very easy game top learn, but it is also a very hard game to master. Texas hold em is probably the most popular variation of poker there is with both beginners and poker pro,s. Texas hold em poker can be played in either the cash game or tournament formats. Playing Texas hold em in a cash game basically means that you can stand up from the table at any time and cash in your winnings. The tournament format of Texas hold em is a bit different in the regards that once you buy in, you are locked into the game until you either win or get taken out by another player. Steps to Follow in a Texas Hold em Poker Game : 1. Before the game starts, you must decide on a dealer for the first hand. This can be done by simply having each person draw a card; low card (or high card) is the dealer. From this point, the deal will shift around the table to the left. 2. Post blinds and antes. The two people to the left of the dealer are the little blind and big blind respectively. Everyone else would place the ante (if antes are used). To keep the game moving along, blinds and antes must be raised at given times. 3. The dealer deals each player two cards at this point. These cards are known as the hole cards. 4. Betting begins with the player to the left of the big blind. to remain in the game, this player must match the big blind or raise the pot. The betting continues until all players have either called the highest bet or folded their hand. 5. The Flop : At this point, the dealer burns and turns. In Texas hold em, this step is called the flop, this is done by placing one card face down on the table, and three face up. The first card is not in play, and can be placed in with any cards that have been folded to this point. 6. Second round of betting now takes place. The betting starts with the little blind (or the first player to the little blinds left who is still in the game). Once again, the betting continues around the table until each player has called or folded. 7. The Turn : Now burn a card (place a card face down into the discard pile), and flip one more card over next to the first three; this card is known as the turn card in a Texas hold em poker game. 8.Third round of betting now takes place. 9. The river : In Texas hold em, the third round of betting is known as the river. Burn one card, and turn one card (you will now have five cards face up on the table). 10. Final round of betting now takes place. 11. Anyone left in the Texas hold em game at this point will show their card. Winning hand takes the pot. A split pot is also a possibility if two or more people have the same hand. Texas hold em poker is a great game where skill and luck go hand in hand. In order to win a game of Texas hold em poker, you will need to show your skills and hope that luck finds you. |
